Lab Technician, Arts and Sciences / 文理学部实验室技术员
Position Summary
The Interactive Media Arts Program at NYU Shanghai and related majors are focused on exploring the expressive possibilities brought about by emerging forms of technology. Through a rigorous project-based curriculum IMA students work with hardware and software to develop experimental physical and screen-based interactive works. The students, faculty, and staff of the Interactive Media Arts Program depend on the smooth operation of our technology and studio spaces to do their work. The Lab Technician will support all aspects of the Studio, Lab equipment, machines and resources etc. under the supervision of the Studio and Technology Operations Manager, to ensure a safe, efficient, and productive lab environment.
This position works as technology staff in Interactive Media Arts Program at NYU Shanghai to provide daily technology, desktop and audio-visual support in classrooms and labs throughout the community. Actively identify, develop, implement and support appropriate technology solutions for teaching, learning, research and department events. Support technology equipment, facilities in department space.
The role of Lab Technician is to function as key partner for lab users and ensure an efficient, continuous operation of labs as well as daily equipment maintenance. Help foster a responsive and adept technology support structure to promote the effective use of technology in teaching, learning, research and administration activities. Work both individually and as part of a support team, have a specialty area such as presentation technology, computer administration, sound engineering etc.
Under the supervision of Studio and Technology Operations Manager the main responsibilities of a Lab Technician mainly includes but not limited to:
Equipment Management and Maintenance (30%)
Technology Support for Teaching and Learning (40%)
Daily Lab Operation Support (20%)
Program-Related Procurement (10%)
Qualifications
Required Education:
Minimum Bachelor’s Degree. Preferably in Computer Science, Digital Media Production, Instructional Technology, Sound Engineering, EE (Electronic Engineering), Electric Engineering and Automation, Electronics Science and Technology, Electrical & Information Engineering, or equivalent. If the candidate has good knowledge, background or skills in the field of related technology, majors can be not limited in the above.
Required Experience
Proficiency in setting up, configuring, maintaining and troubleshooting desktop/laptop hardware, software and operating systems (Mac OS and Windows).
1-2 years’ intern or related experience in providing desktop, A/V(audio-visual), technology support is preferred, but not a must.
